We Shocked the Sheriff

A number of organizations and allies banded together on Saturday, October 24 to interrupt the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference in Chicago. They marched down South Halsted to protest “criminalization, police abuse and mass incarceration, including that of immigrants” in response to the rising number of deaths due to police brutality. Community organizations included Black Youth Project 100, Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, Freedom Inc., Fight for 15, Positive Action Center, and more. In the interruption, they stated 3 demands to be addressed by the IACP: 1. Community control over police. 2. Independent investigations of police misconduct. 3. Justice reinvestment.
